Weapons class raises $2,300 for Cates children

Photos:

Forty-six people battled the rain and elements to attend the second Levy County Sheriffs Fundraiser For the Cates Family. The event raised $2,300 for the five children of Carrie Cates of Bronson, who died after being struck by a vehicle  on Oct 9. The children are being raised by her parents.

Although over 87 people had signed up for the class, the turnout was impressive considering the bad weather, Lt. Scott Finnen, the event coordinator, said.

Finnen thanked Lt. Todd Polo of the Levy County Sheriffs Office and Officer Bill Hartman of the Veterans Affairs Police Department in Gainesville for volunteering their assistance with the event.

With the money raised at a Nov. 10 class, the volunteers have raised $4,850 for the fund.

Donations can be made to a special fund set up at Capital City Bank in Bronson. Make checks out to the The Cates Family Children's Fund at Capital City Bank at 140 E. Hathaway Ave., Bronson, FL 32621.
