All the grace, color and tradition that is the Kentucky Derby will move South Oct. 24 when Haven Hospice hosts Fall at the Derby at Black Prong Equestrian Center.
The 250-acre property, nestled in the heart of the Goethe Forest, will showcase an evening of fun for benefactors of the end-of-life care organization.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., guests will be entertained by the Rick Gordon Band, who will play throughout the evening.
Both live and silent auctions will take place with the center’s Aulson Hall as the focal point for items that have been donated.
Staff from Black Prong, known for its carriage driving competitions, will also be on hand for demonstrations before more than 400 guests settle in for a meal catered by Williston’s Ivy House.
“I think Haven Hospice is a worthwhile organization,” said Maureen Aulson, who with her husband, Alan, owns the property. “My mother died and hospice was very good to her and my whole family. We want to give something back to the community.”
Tickets, which are $75 each, are available by contacting Sara Walker at 379-6258. They are also available at Drummond Bank in Chiefland, Trenton, Cedar Key and Cross City.
“All proceeds will benefit our unfunded programs,” said Jenni Williams, spokesman for Haven Hospice. Those programs include grief support, community outreach and educational programs.
Dress for the evening is country casual and as most of the evening’s events are outside, Williams recommends guests dress comfortably for warm weather and walking on grass and trails.
Black Prong Equestrian Center is located 8.5 miles south of Bronson on CR 337.
