Donors stuff the bus

By Lou Elliott Jones

Volunteers turned out Saturday morning and took their posts beside bright yellow school buses and waited patiently until late afternoon for generous donors to bring school supplies to be distributed to Levy County public school students. Started by the Morriston Baptist Church's Band of Brothers and sponsored by the Levy County Schools Foundation, the collection of pens, pencils, paper and backpacks is an annual rite. Tami Wain, foundation secretary, said while the afternoon rains in Chiefland may have dampened turnout, it looked as if the buses in  Chiefland, Williston and Bronson collected about the same amount of “stuff” as last year. The only downside is that the depressed economy affected cash donations. Joseph Wain, who staffed the Chiefland Bus came back with empty cash buckets this year. He said there were cash donations last year.
